Portugal

Portugal is where a simpler route matters more than collecting every possible city and coast stop.

PLANNING NOTES, BY PLACE

Start with the route we are still building.

Portugal is the exception in this destination collection: the notes are useful, but the first-person trip record is not complete. We keep the planning framework clearly labeled instead of filling the gaps with a story we cannot support.

PLANNING NOTES · NOT YET A FULL TRIP DIARY

Portugal is still a route we are building honestly.

We have Lisbon photographs and planning notes, but we do not have the same complete, first-person daily record here that we have for Japan, Italy, or France. We would rather say that clearly than turn research into a trip story we did not live.

The useful question for a future Portugal trip is whether the route is a Lisbon city break, a coast stay, or a deliberate mix. That decision should come before points availability or a long attraction list.

What we are planning around

  • A walkable Lisbon base

  • Belém, Castelo de São Jorge, and food stops without crossing the city repeatedly

  • A separate decision about Sintra rather than calling it a small add-on

What we will verify before publishing a full guide

The actual room, the actual daily route, transportation friction, restaurants we personally ate at, and what we would change after doing it. Until then, this page is a transparent planning framework.

Our take: Portugal stays on the site as a clearly labeled work in progress, not a manufactured travel story.

WHAT THE FIRST DRAFT GETS RIGHT

A smaller route leaves room for Portugal.

  • Choose Lisbon, the coast, or a deliberate mix before comparing room deals

  • Treat Sintra as a real outing, not a quick extra

  • Count transfers and luggage time before adding another base

  • Keep one open day for weather and the places that earn more time

These are planning principles, not a claim that we have already tested every stop.

WHAT WE WILL VERIFY AFTER THE TRIP

The published guide will follow the lived route.

After the trip, we will add the room we actually used, the daily transportation friction, restaurants we personally ate at, and the parts we would shorten or repeat.

Until then, this page remains a transparent planning framework. It should help with the first decisions without pretending the itinerary is finished.
