Travel Resources
These are the websites that we use for every trip we take. They make it easy and affordable.
LODGING
Booking.com
Useful when we need to compare family-room setups, location, cancellation rules, and the full price with taxes and fees.
What we check before booking
🗺️ Use the map and filter by the neighborhood you actually want.
🛏️ Read the exact bed and occupancy details.
🔒 Check cancellation and payment timing.
💵 Compare the final total, not the headline rate.
-
No. Sometimes a Genius or platform-funded rate wins; other times the hotel matches the price and adds breakfast, a better room, or easier changes. We compare the same room, occupancy, meal plan, cancellation window, taxes, and currency. If the direct total is close, the clearer booking relationship usually wins for us.
-
The reservation is generally with the property, even when you found it on Booking.com. Your confirmation tells you whether the property or Booking.com handles payment. For an important stay, we send the hotel the confirmation and verify the beds and guest count. We never follow an unexpected payment link from a message without checking it in the official app and with the property.
-
Only until the deadline printed for that exact rate. A room can be free to cancel and still have a payment scheduled before arrival. We save the confirmation, note the property’s local time zone, and cancel inside the official app rather than relying on a phone promise.
-
Not always. Booking.com does not add an accommodation booking fee, but local taxes, resort charges, deposits, and card conversion can sit outside the first number you see. We open the full breakdown and compare what is due now, later, and at the property. Recent verified-stay reviews are useful too, especially when we filter for families and the exact room type.
TOURS & ACTIVITIES
Viator
A useful comparison point when a timed tour, guided visit, or hard-to-book experience will make the day run more smoothly.
What we check before booking
🎟️ Compare exactly what admission is included.
📍 Confirm the meeting point or pickup plan.
🕒 Check the pace and total duration.
⭐ Read recent reviews for the actual operator.

-
Not automatically. We compare the exact operator, start time, group size, admission, pickup, and final total. Direct can be cheaper or easier to change; Viator earns its place when the local checkout is weak or having tickets and support together removes friction.
-
Viator is the marketplace; a local operator runs the experience. The platform has supplier standards, but the day still depends on that operator. We read recent operator-specific reviews, then check language, group size, accessibility, pickup, and what “guided” actually includes.
-
Neither wins every time. The same or a very similar experience may appear on both. We choose the better listing for our date: actual supplier, cancellation terms, meeting point, inclusions, and final price—not the logo at the top of the page.
-
Often, but not always. Some Viator bookings can take time to confirm, and the voucher may include a separate redemption step or printing rule. We do not build the day around it until the booking says confirmed and we have read every line of the voucher. Cancellation is product-specific too; the listing and voucher control.
GUIDED EXPERIENCES
GetYourGuide
Helpful for comparing guided visits and attraction tickets when we want the details in one place before committing.
What we check before booking
🏛️ Check whether attraction entry is included.
👣 Review the walking pace and accessibility notes.
📍 Confirm the meeting point before booking.
↩️ Read the cancellation policy.
-
Not necessarily. GetYourGuide says a supplier may sell the same activity for less elsewhere, though it offers price matching for identical public offers. We compare the same supplier, date, language, inclusions, and cancellation terms before calling anything a deal.
-
Usually no. The contract for the activity is with the independent supplier, while GetYourGuide handles discovery, booking, and support. We look for the supplier name and recent reviews about that exact operator—not just the headline rating.
-
We use it when the listing is clearer, the self-service cancellation terms are better, or the right supplier is available there. We use Viator when its operator, support path, or affiliate shop is better for that trip. There is no universal winner.
-
The common baseline is a full refund when you cancel more than 24 hours before the start, but the activity page, supplier terms, and voucher can override that. The GetYourGuide voucher is not always the scannable venue ticket; sometimes a second QR code or exchange is required. We read the redemption line before paying.
ASIA TICKETS & TRANSIT
Klook
Especially useful in Asia for comparing attraction tickets, transit products, and practical trip add-ons before we arrive.
What we check before booking
🚆 Check the transit or pass details.
📱 Read the voucher redemption instructions.
🎟️ Confirm exactly what the ticket includes.
💱 Compare the final price in your currency.

-
It is a real marketplace and especially useful in Asia for attractions, transit products, and mobile vouchers. The catch is that Klook still has to confirm many bookings with the merchant. We treat the order as pending until the booking is confirmed and the usable voucher has arrived.
-
Sometimes, not always. Promotions can beat the gate price, while bank conversion or product-specific fees can erase the savings. We compare the final amount in one currency, then compare flexibility and redemption—not just the crossed-out price.
-
The policy is listing-specific: free cancellation, conditional cancellation, or no cancellation. Fixed-date no-shows are usually a bad refund case; open-date tickets depend on the validity window. We screenshot the policy and add the last usable date to the calendar.
-
For simple attraction tickets or a hard-to-use official checkout, yes. For rail seats, exact entry times, or anything we may need to change, we compare the official seller first. Direct booking often gives clearer seat control, redemption, and exception handling; convenience is only valuable when it stays convenient.
