Day 1 morning

DAY 1 · MORNING

Yu Garden and Old City

Start at Yu Garden, then walk the surrounding Old City streets while they are still manageable. The garden is peaceful; the lanes outside are busy, colorful, and full of shops and snacks.

We ate xiao long bao, pan-fried noodles, fried rice, and sweet-and-sour pork. If you want a specific dumpling stop to check, start with Jia Jia Tang Bao or Yang's Fry-Dumpling.

Stay: Hyatt on the Bund
Eat: Dumplings and an easy lunch around Old City.
Reserve: Check current Yu Garden hours; the dumpling shops are usually queue-first.

DAY 1 · MIDDAY

Jade Buddha Temple

The Jade Buddha Temple gave us a quieter hour between Old Shanghai and the modern skyline. Walk the complex calmly, follow the posted photography rules, and leave room for people who are there to worship.

Stay: Hyatt on the Bund
Eat: Have lunch before or after the temple rather than trying to rush both stops.
Reserve: Check the temple's current hours and use Didi when it saves a long cross-city transfer.

Day 1 · Late afternoon and evening

The Bund

Historic buildings on one side of the river, Pudong on the other, and a skyline that is worth seeing in daylight and again after dark.

Day 1 evening

DAY 1 · LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING

The Bund before and after dark

Reach the Bund before sunset. Historic buildings line one side of the river and the Pudong skyline fills the other, so the view changes completely as the light fades.

Stay through the lights if everyone still has energy. For a short Shanghai stop, seeing the skyline in daylight and after dark was worth keeping the evening simple.

Stay: Hyatt on the Bund
Eat: Keep dinner flexible near the river or hotel.
Reserve: No ticket is needed for the promenade.

Day 2

DAY 2 - HALF DAY

Pudong before flying home

Use the final half-day to cross the river into Pudong.

Visit Super Brand Mall for shopping, food, and a break from the heat or rain. Our family also enjoyed the anime and character shops in the area.

If time allows, look for the Pokémon store, browse for souvenirs, or stop at an observation area for another view of the city.

Head back to the Hyatt, collect the luggage, and take a prearranged car or Didi to the airport.

Stay: Hyatt on the Bund; collect luggage before the airport transfer.
Eat: Super Brand Mall worked because everyone could choose from several options; We kept this meal flexible. For a sit-down option, check Din Tai Fung.
Reserve: Prearrange the airport car. Check Din Tai Fung's current reservation or queue policy, and reserve an observation deck only if it is a priority.
